- An ESP Explorer style guitar with active EMG pickups, documented album era equipment.
- A modified Mesa/Boogie Mark IIC+, often written IIC++, blended with other amplifiers rather than used alone.
- Scooped mids and a tight, controlled low end. Less gain than people assume, which is what keeps the low E defined.
- Layered rhythm tracks. The weight on record comes from multiple performances and many cabinets, not from one enormous amp setting.
- A separate clean rig, long associated with the Roland JC-120 and its built in chorus.
