Tone card
What defines the sound
- An Electro-Harmonix Small Clone chorus, which producer Butch Vig credits for the watery sound on Come As You Are and in the verses of Smells Like Teen Spirit.
- D standard tuning on Come As You Are, every string a whole step down.
- A small set of amps on Nevermind: Cobain's Mesa/Boogie, plus a Fender Bassman and a Vox AC30 that Vig rented.
- Layered guitars, with Cobain's left-handed Mosrite cranked through the Bassman for the distorted sections of Come As You Are.
